About Us

Menter Cwm Gwendraeth was launched in 1991 as a pilot project for the Gwendraeth Valley.  From the outset, our emphasis was on working at a community level and ensuring that local residents are involved in all the Menter’s activities.   Since 1998, Menter  Cwm Gwendraeth Elli has been working strategically according to the Welsh Government and Carmarthenshire County Council’s Community Planning Framework, developing projects in the field of Health and Wellbeing, Community Regeneration, the Environment, Life Long Learning and Children and Young People.  We ensure that the Welsh Language is core to the development of each project.

Since 2008, the Menter’s core catchment area has been extended to include the towns of Llanelli and Burry Port and the surrounding communities, an important area in cultural and economic terms, which offers an even greater challenge when promoting the Welsh Language and encouraging its greater use.

In April 2014, Nerys Burton, a native of Five Roads was appointed Chief Executive of Menter Cwm Gwendraeth Elli  and plans are also being put in place for an exciting future for Menter Cwm Gwendraeth Elli and for the Welsh Language in the communities of the Gwendraeth Valley and the Llanelli area.
